Zigmund

Our foreman on the project is Zigmund, who likes to remind us that he shares a name with Freud. He also enjoys vaping on the project site (he says it is a special cigarette with no fire that uses water). Zigmund’s English is pretty limited, so we rely on Habitat staff member Marta or volunteer Asha for translations. Zigmund provides a lot of constructive feedback on our work, which ideally involves a lot of “ok”s, or even better some “perfect”s. His employee Marek does the bulk of the heavy work, technical support, and instruction on the project. They do not always agree on next steps, which provides some interesting exchanges. But both are invaluable for us as we get to impasses, have technical issues, or try to determine what to do next.
