The bad news about the Wieliczka salt mine is that on a busy Monday, you’ll spend a good two hours waiting in line for tickets. And then the tour itself is three hours. And once you decide you want to leave, the departure is an additional 15 minutes of walking, plus another chapel, and a cramped elevator ride. Which means that we almost miss our vodka tour. The good news is that despite some hokey mannequins, the site is actually quite impressive. The mine has been operational for hundreds of years, and has elaborate sculptures, rooms, and churches. The tour invokes 1.5 miles of walking many floors underground.
